My Fall table this year featured beautiful Seeded Eucalyptus Garland from Hobby Lobby, and my favorite, DIY Hand Painted Faux Pumpkins! Tutorial below.
DIY Hand Painted Faux Pumpkins
Supplies:
- Faux pumpkins in varied sizes and shapes, I like these from Hobby Lobby! I purchased 3 bags of these pumpkin and gourd mixtures.
- Paint in Aluminum, Malted Milk, and Copper from Target’s Hand Made Modern paint collection.
- Paint Brushes (small tips).
- Paper or newspaper to cover your working surface, gloves are optional too.
- Coated paper plates to place wet pumpkins on for drying.
Directions:
- Divide your pumpkins into piles of 3, distributing different types and sizes for each of the 3 paint colors.
- Prepare your work space by laying down paper.
- Gather your supplies, including paint brushes, pumpkins, paint, and paper plates.
- Start painting the pumpkins in each of the 3 colors, they will need 2 coats of paint.
- I placed the wet pumpkins on the coated paper plates to dry, if you place them on paper, the paint will stick to the pumpkin and break away.
- When the pumpkins are dry, paint the stems in copper for the Malted Milk and Aluminum colored pumpkins. For the Copper colored pumpkins I painted the stem in Malted Milk, but Aluminum works as well.
- Of the faux pumpkin variety, I left the white mini ones in white, but painted the stems in Copper. I also chose to keep the green pumpkins as is because they paired nicely with the Eucalyptus garland leaves.
Creating the Tablescape
It’s tough to find a runner long enough for my dining room table, which is the Salvaged Wood Trestle Table (72″-102″L x 36″W x 30″H; with two 15″ leaves) in Natural from Restoration Hardware. So I decided to start making my own runners by purchasing fabric, usually utility fabric that’s inexpensive, from Joann.com. This particular runner is a result of a sheer utility fabric folded in three, and I left the raw edges for a more rustic look, and also to save time! Dining chairs are from the Rivera Collection at Serena and Lily, link here.
Then you can simply arrange the Eucalyptus garland, I used 2 for my table length, and place the DIY pumpkins in clusters throughout the length of the table. As a centerpiece, I used a vintage sterling silver tray, a glass vase with white roses in the center, and surrounded it with more of the pumpkins. Finally, some candle holders and LED flameless candles complete the look. These are my favorite real wax, flameless candles, from Amazon!
